Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion

All skin types will benefit from a rejuvenating and revitalising microdermabrasion treatment. We use diamond tips and a suction to remove dead skin cells, leading to more refined, glowing and healthier looking skin.

Acne: microdermabrasion treatments open up and clean out blockages, helping to clear acne conditions. By stimulating the lymphatic drainage, it helps to remove waste products and toxins from the skin, accelerating the healing process. Acne scars are refined and minimised.

Aging: microdermabrasion stimulates microcirculation – bringing oxygen and nourishment to the skin, stimulates fibroblasts to produce collagen and elastin. It will even out the skin tone and give a smoother look to the all-over texture of the skin.

FAQs - Microdermabrasion

What is Micro-dermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a quick, non-invasive, painless treatment. It is used to clean, refine and smooth the skin surface while stimulating healthy vital reactions in the deeper layers of the skin using suction and manual exfoliation to remove the outer layer of skin.

How does it work?

During the treatment, the operator uses a pen-like hand piece, a wand, with a rough surface (diamond tip) on one end and suction. The wand is moved over the skin, sometimes slowly in a brushing motion, sometimes rapidly in a rubbing action to gently loosen and remove the surface layer of dead skin cells. The suction acts like a vacuum cleaner, gently cleaning the skin and emptying out the blocked pores. This stimulates the blood circulation, bringing oxygen and essential nutrients to the surface in order to refresh the skin and promote cell regeneration.

What conditions can be treated?

Microdermabrasion is a cleansing and rejuvenating treatment used for conditions such as congested skin, acne, acne scarring, enlarged pores, sun damaged skin, fine lines, pigmentation and general skin rejuvenation.

How will I look after my treatment?

It is normal for the skin to be pink after the treatment, lasting up to a few hours. Mild exfoliation is common in the first few days of the early treatments but is uncommon once the skin is in a better condition. Where acne pustules and cysts have been treated, the area may be red and a small scab may form, lasting several days. Do not pick any scabs!

Is there any downtime after a treatment?

Microdermabrasion is a safe and gentle procedure. Although, it is essential to use SPF 30+ for the next 48 hours, as you may experience mild redness and sloughing/peeling and also avoid sun exposure until the skin has completely recovered.

Are there any contraindications?

There are some contraindications to consider: recent use of the drug Roaccutane, active cold sores, any broken or infected skin, severe vascular lesions and recent sunburn.

How many treatments do I need?

When it comes to microdermabrasion, one treatment will not provide instant results. That is why it is important to have a series of microdermabrasion services, 3 to 6 are recommended for the best results.

How does a microdermabrasion treatment work on the skin?

The thickness of the epidermis is increased because new cells are being produced more rapidly and the cells themselves are larger and healthier. The cells of the lower layers of the epidermis are knitted tighter in a more consistent “basket weave” configuration, instead of a haphazard arrangement. The barrier function of the epidermis is disrupted for the first 24 to 48 hours causing the skin to be drier than usual. During the cell reproduction of cells the fibroblasts that make up the collagen fibers are increased and are thicker more tightly packed and more organized. The number of elastin fibers also increased and they are orientated vertically instead of horizontally giving the dermal layer more “spring”.

What results can I expect?

Depending on the area treated, you will notice an improvement in your skin’s appearance after your treatment. Stretch marks and acne scars will be less obvious. Age spots and fine lines are reduced, and many Microdermabrasion clients report that their skin seems softer, tighter, smoother and younger looking. What Will Microdermabrasion do for my skin?   Overall, microdermabrasion will reduce the appearance of wrinkles, remove acne scars, clear up blackheads, minimize the size of the pores, reduce sun damage, and even out the skin tone. Microdermabrasion also helps to boost collagen production to provide firming and toning to the complexion.
